Mini Implants

A Secure, Long-Lasting Solution for Tooth Lossprosthetic teeth with mini dental implants

Dental implants are a permanent, natural-looking solution for tooth loss and can help boost confidence and good health. Sometimes, a person who has suffered from tooth loss will lose an adequate amount of bone density because their tooth root is no longer there to stimulate their jawbone.

If this is the case, and you’ve been missing one or more teeth for a long period of time, then Dr. Villalobos may recommend that you get mini dental implants. Just like regular implants, this restorative treatment will help improve your dental health and replace any number of missing teeth.

They’re much smaller and don’t require a large amount of jawbone density, allowing you to receive them if you’ve suffered from severe bone deterioration. Dr. Villalobos will create a personalized treatment plan during your initial consultation.

Benefits of Mini Implants

Mini dental implants offer a wide variety of benefits in addition to helping you smile with confidence again. The benefits of mini implants include:

  • Requires less bone mass
  • Comfortable
  • Sturdy and long-lasting
  • Less expensive than regular implants
  • Reduces the need for a bone graft
  • Heals more quickly

Placing the Implantsmini dental implant

Mini implants are typically used to secure a full upper or lower denture to the jawbone. They can be easily used for single tooth replacements, but Dr. Villalobos will typically recommend a regular dental implant if you have good bone density.

After your consultation, we will place the mini implants along your gum line. When using the mini implants for a full arch replacement, Dr. Villalobos will use four to six implants to serve as a base for your denture piece.

With the small size of mini implants, we won’t have to make any large incisions like we normally need to do with regular dental implants. They can be inserted right through the gum into the bone and require less time to heal. This eliminates the need for the process of osseointegration, so the restoration can be attached right away or only a short period after.

Cleaning your mini dental implants is the same as your regular teeth. Simply brush and floss twice a day and rinse with mouth wash at least once a day.

Are mini dental implants as good as regular implants?

If you have a healthy jawbone density, traditional implants may work better for you. However, both regular-sized and mini implants are strong, stable, and long-lasting.

Mini implants are a good choice for you if you don’t have as much healthy bone left or want a less invasive procedure. At your consultation, we can determine which choice is best for you.

Is getting mini dental implants painful?

Before your implant procedure, our team will offer you sedation dentistry and apply a local anesthetic to ensure you’re completely comfortable and numb to any pain.

After we’ve completed treatment, most patients say they feel little to no discomfort. However, during your recovery, we recommend that you take medication, like Ibuprofen, and use a cold compress to help alleviate your pain.

Do mini dental implants last?

Just like traditional dental implants, mini implants are designed to last a lifetime with proper oral care and regular dental check-ups to our Jupiter office. Since mini dental implants bond naturally into your jawbone, they offer you and your smile more stability and durability than any other tooth-replacement option.
